Sedgwick Historical Renovation
Located in Lincoln Park, one of Chicago’s finest neighborhoods, the Sedgwick Residence was brought back to life after years of neglect. Originally a single-family home, the building was converted into a multi-unit building and the front façade was changed to accommodate two front entries and a metal stairway. The building once again was in the process of being converted back into a single-family residence when it was abandoned mid-construction in 2015.
Once the current client bought the building, the goal of the project was to restore and renovate the home to bring it up to modern standards while still maintaining its traditional charm. On the exterior the front façade was restored so that the building’s entry was restored to its original location and size. A centered wood stair with a covered porch was put in to harken back to a more traditional entry. The front windows were restored from fixed panel windows to the original double hung windows with the original arched stone headers.
The interiors for the building were kept simple and elegant. Traditional elements such as the crown molding and baseboard were detailed to tie the rooms of the home together. While the main color palette for the is a neutral tone, within each room there is an element which acts as color accent to coincide with the function of the room.
