Black Dog Gelato

Black Dog Gelato’s story stems from a dog and a love for classic Italian style gelato. Black Dog’s owner started her career as a pastry chef but shifted her specialty to making gelato. She started selling small batches of unique flavors at farmers markets across Chicago, and it soon landed her her first location in Ukranian Village.

Black Dog is known for their unique flavors made in small batches. When designing their second location, it was important for the customers to get a glimpse into the gelato making process. At the back of the shop, you can see into the kitchen through large black factory doors to see where the magic happens.

Black Dog’s iconic pink in their branding plays an important role in the new location as it covers the entire ceiling. Small traditional Italian gelato shops with black and white accents became the concept behind the new shop. Using classic subway tiles and traditional black and white mosaic flooring, customers are transported to an old school gelato shop with new and inventive flavors.
